Advanced Air Mobility — Research Tools

AAM Project

Interactive tools supporting passenger and freight demand characterisation, and corridor analysis for zero-emissions aviation research in Australia.

CSIRO TraNSIT Road Freight
🚛

CSIRO TraNSIT OD Explorer

An experimental tool for exploring Australian road freight data from the CSIRO TraNSIT Benchmarking platform. Analyse origin–destination freight flows at the LGA level across commodities, costs, emissions, and industries.

📊 TraNSIT Dashboard — Enter any Origin → Destination LGA pair to retrieve detailed freight metrics including annual tonnes, transport costs, CO₂ emissions, trip distance, freight value, and industry breakdowns with charts.
🔬 Commodity OD Rankings — Rank all freight corridors nationally or from a single origin by individual commodity (e.g. Beer, Wheat, Steel). Filter by commodity, sector, or industry group.
🔔 App Update (19 Mar 2025): More visualisation added to the app based on Commodity Filter Insights.
Localis Full Delivery Passenger OD
🗂️

Localis Full Delivery OD Explorer (Jan 2026)

An interactive analytical tool for exploring device-level mobility data to understand passenger movement patterns across Victoria, built on the full Localis delivery dataset. This instance uses one month of data (January 2026) from the complete delivery, enabling higher-fidelity OD analysis compared to the sample dataset.

📍 OD Passenger Flows — Analyse origin–destination passenger flows derived from the full Localis delivery dataset and explore top travel corridors by trip frequency and device counts.
🕐 Temporal Patterns — Examine hourly distributions and weekday versus weekend travel trends to characterise regional travel demand behaviour.
📏 Distance-Based Corridor Screening — Evaluate distance-based travel behaviour to identify long-distance corridors (≥70 km) suitable for AAM feasibility analysis.
🔔 App Update (02 Apr 2026): Initial release — full Localis delivery dataset, January 2026 data chunk.
Boundary Reference Geospatial
🗺️

Australia LGA & Suburb Map

An interactive reference map of every Australian Local Government Area, built on ABS 2021/2025 official boundaries. Drill from the national view into any LGA to see the suburbs it contains — the geography layer the origin–destination analysis above is built on.

🗾 National Coverage — All 542 LGAs across 8 states and territories, each shaded by jurisdiction, with area and suburb counts shown on hover.
🔍 LGA Drill-Down — Click any LGA to zoom in and list the suburbs it contains — 15,331 in total — with a search box to filter within the selected area.
🧭 State Selection — Jump straight to any state or territory, or return to the national overview, without losing your place.
🔔 App Update (10 Aug 2026): Initial release — 542 LGAs with suburb-level drill-down on ABS official boundaries.
Trip Density Demand Layer
🔥

State-Based Trip Density Maps

Where trips actually start. Trip-origin density across seven states and territories for 2024, aggregated to H3 resolution-8 hexagons over official ABS Local Government Area boundaries.

📊 Continental Scale — 884,386 hexes across 531 LGAs, covering 5.09 billion trip origins for the 2024 year.
🔎 Two Normalisations — Per-LGA keeps internal structure visible in quiet regions; shared scale compares LGAs directly against one another.
🗾 Per-State Maps — Seven states and territories, each opening as its own full-screen map with pan, zoom and per-hex detail on hover. Victoria adds corridor flow arcs.
🔔 App Update (11 Aug 2026): Victoria added, with corridor flow arcs — seven states and territories at H3 res-8.
