Reading the map
One canvas, true positions. Unlike the per-LGA cards, every LGA is
projected on a single statewide plane (equirectangular, latitude-corrected), so distance and
direction between LGAs are real. There is no street tile layer — context is the
administrative boundary.
Scale toggle.Per-LGA (default) log-normalises each LGA to its
own min→max so every LGA's internal structure stays visible — colours are not
comparable across LGAs. Shared uses one statewide log scale: honest comparison, but
Inner Melbourne dominates and rural LGAs read faint.
Corridor selector filters the map. Only the five case-study corridors
get arcs (trip-weighted endpoint centroids, width ∝ total 2024 trips, both directions).
Click a corridor chip to toggle that case study: deselecting removes its arc and its
endpoint LGAs (boundary + hex density). An LGA shared by two corridors — Inner
Melbourne — stays while either is selected; none clears the whole canvas. Colour
scales stay fixed while filtering, so the remaining LGAs never repaint.
LGA names.Auto (default) labels the corridor endpoints plus the
busiest LGAs, and reveals more names as you zoom in (an LGA is named once it's large enough
on screen; overlapping names are thinned automatically). Corridors shows endpoint
names only; All names every visible LGA. Hover any LGA area for its name and totals.
Privacy. Only K≥5-device hexes are shown; no raw or per-device data
leaves the processing instance. Sampled Localis panel — relative demand, not absolute
trips; full calendar year 2024.
